NYC narcotic rockers Psychic Ills draw inspiraton from the druggy drawl of The Velvet Underground and their later forebears Spaceman 3 and The Jesus & Mary Chain. Athough they don't offer anything new in respect of sound, you can't knock the heritage they align themselves with, and they make a convincing case for continuing that fuzzy, opiate tradition. I feature three tracks from their latest album on the Sacred Bones label this week. Other musical highlights in this edition include new releases from Diamond Rugs, Phosphorescent, VIMES and Daughter plus a wonderful cover of McCartney's 'Junk' by young folk hopeful, Jackie Oates.
